Threadiverse
The "Threadiverse" is a collection of social media platforms that follow a forum format, similar to platforms like Reddit or Hacker News. You can share and discuss links, text, and images, and use upvotes/downvotes to decide on what content rises to the top.
I'm confused, what do you mean by "collection of social media platforms"?
We highly recommend that you look at the 'What is the Fediverse?' section first.
These platforms are made up of communities, each of which is based around a specific topic or theme such as "Technology" or "Science Memes". When you make a post, you will need to post it under a particular community.
If you want to see how this is different from a traditional forum, you can read the Threadiverse Detailed Overview page. However, you don't need to understand anything else in order to start using these platforms! Scroll down to see how you can get posting.
Get started in 3 steps
1. Pick an Instance
When you make an email address, you get to decide which provider you created an account with. You can do the same with the threadiverse!
🍦 I can't decide!
If you are having a hard time picking, you're not alone.
You are likely new to this and you don't know which provider is best for you. With so many options, you might feel like you're at an ice cream shop with way too many flavours to try.
Remember, you can always try one out, and then move when you learn about something better! Most instances are interconnected, so you will be able to access the same communities from a variety of different .
We are a provider called Fedecan, and we currently run three of these platforms, with unique features and functionality.
You can read about them and join one on this page: our platforms.
2. Make an Account
This part is easy! For example, if you want to join lemmy.ca, you can go to lemmy.ca/signup and make an account.
In order to reduce spam, some instances will have a sign up form. After you submit, an admin will review your application before letting you in. This can take a few hours.
3. Start Posting
Congratulations! 🎉 Welcome to the threadiverse! You are free to use the platform however you like.
If you think of any other questions, you can ask them in either the NewToLemmy@lemmy.ca or Newcomers@piefed.zip communities. After you make an account, use the search bar to find the communities on our instance.
