Post Title Standards

These are draft guidelines that have not been finalized, and are pending further community discussion.
About Community Rules
Community rules are templates that community moderators can adopt and adjust for their communities. If a community's version of a rule differs from what is written here, the community's version takes priority.
Main Rule
Link Post Titles
When sharing a link to a news article, blog post, or similar content, use the original title of the source material.
You may modify the original title in the following cases, but you are not required to do so:
Adding Context
You may insert clarifying information that helps readers understand the content. This might include replacing a vague term in the title with a more specific identifier or appending a key detail from the article.
Removing Clickbait
You may replace a sensationalized headline with a more accurate summary of the content.
Correcting or Updating
If the details of an article have changed since the original article was posted, or if there are obvious issues with the title, you can fix them.
When modifying a title, you must not editorialize with your own opinion or bias. If you want to create a post with your own title, you should make a text post and include the link somewhere in the body and not the link field. This will make it clear that this is a discussion post and your title will not be displayed with a thumbnail or link preview of the article.
Other Post Titles
For text posts and other non-link posts, titles should accurately represent the content of the post. You should avoid misleading titles, all-caps titles, or excessive sensationalism.
