Tier 2: pixelfed.ca

In addition to the Tier 1: Universal Rules, pixelfed.ca has the following rules and policies.

Proposed Rule Changes

To propose a change to these guidelines or start a discussion about how they are applied, you can post in one of the following communities: !fedecan@lemmy.ca, !pixelfed@lemmy.ca.

Draft

These are draft guidelines that have not been finalized, and are pending further community discussion.

Use the Platform as Intended

Rule 1: Respect Platform Controls

  • If someone has blocked you, do not attempt to contact them through alternate accounts or new accounts.
  • If someone does not want to engage with you, leave them alone. Continued engagement after being asked to stop is harassment.
  • Respect the privacy settings of other users' posts and profiles. Do not screenshot or share content that a user has made visible only to their followers or that is behind a privacy control.

Rule 2: Reporting Content

If you see content that violates the rules, please report it instead of engaging with the user or starting fights.

The report button should be used for content that is against established rules, and it is not a button to show disagreement. Repeatedly abusing the report button may cause the moderators to take action against your account. Instead, we recommend that you use the block and mute features to remove content from your view.

Rule 3: Engagement Manipulation

Do not use methods to manipulate engagement or follower counts. This includes:

  • Buying or selling followers, likes, or boosts
  • Using follow-for-follow schemes
  • Using bots or automated services to inflate engagement metrics
  • Coordinating with a group of users to follow, like, or boost specific content
  • Using multiple accounts to steer conversations deceptively. This includes sockpuppetry, astroturfing, or guerrilla marketing. Likewise, you cannot coordinate with other users to do the same.

Content Rules

Rule 4: Hosting Decisions

You cannot create accounts devoted to adult or sensitive content on pixelfed.ca. While you can engage with such content from remote instances, all content must be labelled as per Tier 1 Rule 10 (Sensitive Content Labelling).

Content that is suggestive but not explicit should be labelled when in doubt.

Rule 5: Spam and Advertising

Accounts that exist primarily to drive traffic to an external site are prohibited. You are free to promote your personal work, hobby, or business, but you must participate in the platform as a community member and not just as a billboard.

✅️ Content that is allowed

  • A photographer or artist sharing their work
  • A business sharing their products
  • Self-promotion by people who are genuinely present on the platform

⛔️ Content that is NOT allowed

  • Link-dropping without meaningful participation
  • SEO-style link spam or traffic-driving posts in captions or comments
  • Automated or outsourced promotion with no genuine presence

Rule 6: Bot Accounts

Automated accounts must comply with Tier 1 Rule 11. The account must be labelled as a bot using the account settings, and it should have contact information so that users can reach out to the bot's operator with concerns.

Rule 7: AI-Generated Content

This section is a placeholder.

This rule needs further community input. The contents below are intended as a starting point for discussion.

Federation Policy

Content from a foreign instance is judged by the same standards and guidelines. We will immediately defederate from instances that host content illegal under Canadian law. We may also defederate from instances that display a pattern of rule violations, spam, or similar issues. We will consider refederating with such instances once we are confident that steps have been taken to deal with the source of the problem.

Appeals

If a moderator or admin has taken action on your content or account, you may appeal the decision.

If your account is banned from pixelfed.ca and you would like to appeal the ban, please email us at support@pixelfed.ca. For instance level appeals, your appeal will be reviewed by someone who was not involved in the original decision where possible.
